Presentation Description: This presentation was developed as a class assignment, however I took great pride in the opportunity to reflect my experience and share what it is like to be a SWI for the SHU Multicultural Center. The environment is positive and helps develop a sense of self.
Presentation Description: This presentation was developed to assist Social Work Interns (SWI) who come after myself within the Multicultural Center. Being the first SWI within this center that was developed in 2020, I felt a responsibility to leave a mark and guidance for the ones to come after me!
Presentation Description: This presentation was developed to assist through conducting the social identity wheel workshop. I gained the opportunity to conduct this workshop on numerous occasions within the SHU Multicultural Center as a SWI. This provided me gained knowledge on numerous different identities that are experienced on campus and in the world. Everyone is unique and so is their experiences that come with their identities that make up who they are.

Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday we spoke upon just because you can reach your goal doesn't mean you're ready to. What might seem appling doesn't mean it necessarily is the right thing for you. Being self-aware plays a huge role in understanding what you want versus what you need.

Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday the group spoke upon how bad habits can be replaced with positive habits, but this has to be rooted in discipline. Being disciplined will play a huge role in not only replacing negative habits, but then habit stacking– for example going to the gym and listening to an informative/motivational podcast.

Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday we had a lovely opportunity to speak with a SHU alumni and choreographer about his experience being a student of color on campus. This was an amazing example for students of color on campus to get motivated to follow their dreams as well as elevate their confidence with themselves.

SW Education/Competency Relation: This connects to the social work field by providing a real life experience of a student who used to attend Sacred Heart University. The experience through being a brown student on campus played a role in putting into practice cultural competence by being able to feel and hear the story of an individual first hand.

Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday we spoke upon commitment and how this is the first step in making a key decision and working towards something. A decision cannot be made without the commitment to the decision. Therefore, being able to make and hold these commitments were discussed further.

SW Education/Competency Relation: This relates to the ethical principle responsibility to the client. Social workers have responsibilities towards clients within their caseload. Therefore, establishing one's strengths and weaknesses as a social worker and being self aware will benefit the client in receiving the best services possible.

Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday we watched a video and spoke about how we can break bad habits, make positive habits, and work through discipline more than motivation. Discipline takes one farther than motivation– work through all seasons and feelings to get to the end result.

SW Education/Competency Relation: This can relate to the social work field because being a new social worker in the social work field you must understand and know your capabilities, skills, strengths, and areas of improvement. Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday the group had an amazing talk about how inspirational Chadwich Bosman was, even though he was battling through cancer he was still participating and working hard for what he believed in and the purpose he overall felt he had on earth. We also spoke about how we can find our purpose, develop our purpose, or elevate within our purpose.

SW Education/Competency Relation: This relates to the social work field through the ethical standard the responsibility to the social work profession. Knowing your purpose is to be a social worker, and having this profession be something you are passionate about is very important. Career wise, if this is not something you want to do this can cause resentment towards the field and even bias towards the profession and clients working with. The great thing about social work is that it is a broad field where you can be applied to many different environments and play key roles.

Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday we went over ways in which we overthink, why we overthink, and what are health coping mechanisms that we overall do. As a group we also covered what items make us feel content, better, or even what self-awareness we have of ourselves as individuals.

Summary: During this Wisdom Wednesday the group spoke upon the contemporary modern issues women face today within society. That deems women's contributions to society as not enough, or too little compared to a “man”. An example used was Serena Williams not being as praised as some of the famous basketball players like Lebron James.

SW Education/Competency Relation: This relates to social work through being culturally competent (1.05). Culture can relate to society and the constructs they create especially within gender roles overall. This video and summary above specifically shows a prime example of the culture of society deeming women's contributions as lesser. This marginalized group may be a group as a social worker you are representing, and being aware of the societal construct, especially around people of color (POC) is crucial.

We as a group had an example where an individual is trying to carry all their family members on their back and fit through a small door. It wont work without making oneself a priority.
